Once your application is received in HR it will be reviewed by our investigator for any minimum qualifications and/or automatic disqualifiers.  (Please review both the minimum qualifications and disqualifiers at this link: https://www.wvarj.org/163/Minimum-Qualifications-Disqualifiers.)

(Note for anyone applying for a WellPath medical position or for a Trinity kitchen position: you will need to apply directly to those provider companies, as they are contracted services. https://www.wvarj.org/Jobs.aspx)

If you are an individual with a disability and require a reasonable accommodation to complete any part of the application process, or are limited in the ability or unable to access or use this online application process and need an alternative method for applying, you may call 540-378-3726 or email HR@wvarj.org for assistance.

Next Steps for Correctional Officer Applicants:

If you meet the requirements to be eligible for the position of Correctional Officer, the WVRJ HR Specialist will contact you to schedule pre-employment testing, which includes a written exam and a physical agility test. Click on the following link to view the written and physical agility testing details/examples and for information on how to dress, what to bring with you, etc.

At this point you will be notified to complete the WVRJ personal history statement that will be made available through a link emailed to you. (This is required so your background investigation can be completed.)

If you pass both the Written and Physical Agility tests you will then be scheduled for a preliminary interview with the investigator.

If that goes well, you then proceed to the background investigation portion of the WVRJ hiring process.

Upon successful background investigation results, you will meet with a member of the command staff for a 2nd interview and discussion of the duties and expectations of the Correctional Officer position.  If both parties are still ready to proceed, you will sign a Conditional Offer of Employment.

You then submit to a pre-employment full physical with a drug screen and a full psychological evaluation.

Upon passing results from both the above physical and psychological testing, HR will reach out to you to make an official offer of employment and set a start date.  At some point between this time and your start date, you will meet with the Superintendent for final approval.

Next Steps for Control Room Operator Applicants:

If you meet the requirements to be eligible for the position of Control Room Operator, the WVRJ HR Specialist will contact you to schedule pre-employment testing, which includes a written exam. Click on the following link to view the written testing details/examples and for information on what to bring with you, etc.
